This tribunal convened at Kenans ville on Monday last, His Honor Judge Avery presiding. The citate docket is very light, and the cases ure mostljT unimpert ant, but there is quite a large civil docket which will undoubtedly claim the attention of the court for the entire week. In the legal profession, aside from the members of the Duplin bar, the counties of Greene, Lenoir, Wayne, Sampson, Onslow, and New Hanover were; repre sented. ! The "press gang" were out in full force, and the Raleigh Observer, fieics, Farmer & Meclumic, JIale 'a Weekly the Golds bore Messenger, the Wilmington Star and the Rbvikw and the Journal were represented. Again we would remind our readers to call on Messrs. A. & ! Shrier and exam ine the immense stock of Men's, Youths and Boys' Clothing, which they are selling at extremely low prices. They have also received a handsome stock of latest styles Straw and Felt Hats. tf The Duplin Canal. We regret to learn that a difficulty, which may result in unpleasant compli cations hereafter, h?s occurred between the force employed on the Duplin Canal and some of the citizens who live id thit immediate vicinity. i j It seems that in constructing the cana it became necessary to place obstructions across a creek which the people use in transporting their products to market. At 'this the citizens were iucensed, and a number of them gathered together and removed the obstructions. The creek was 8am obstructed ana again tney were removed. Since then, however, proceed ings have been suspended, and the case is to come up before Judge Avery, now holding court ia Duplin county, on Thursday, the 19th inst., to determine the rights in the cse. A Household Need.-. A book on the Liver, its diseases and their treatment sent free. Including treatises upon Liver Complaint, Torpid Liver. Jaundice. Biliousness, Headache, Cons R ation, Dyspepsia, Malaria, etc. Address Dr. San ford, lbL' .Broadway, New York,. N. IV 4w One way. to Economise. 0 Many a poor man,- if required to ac count for the manner in which ho has expended his income, would find bills ot his family physician for 'medical services' among the leading items. In seven cases out of ten, acute diseases are the result of some neglected chronic disease. Thus, fevers " invariably result from diseased conditions of the blood and liver, and a timely use of alterative or blood-purifying, cathartic remedies would have averted the prostrating illness, that often leaves the system irreparably tojured. Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery and Pleasant Purgative Pellets are the: best alterative and cathartic medicines yet compounded. Full directions are given for administering them, together with an accurate description of the symptoms demanding their use. They will not cure all human ills (as some medicines ara ad vertised to do), but they will cure tbe diseases for which they are compounded and recommended. l. New Uniform. Mr. Jaco' E sbach has submitted a samp'e of a new ' uniform sHirt to the Howard Fire EoglneCooapany. Rain Seeded. The country aorth of the city on tLe line of tho W. & W. Railroad is needing rain very much. The plantations have had n& rain for several weeks and the ground is dry and parched like an ash heap. There is a larger acreage than nssal punted this year, but unless showers come to refresh the parched earth withia a short time, the crops will suffer severely. The Marchlson. The steamer D, Murthisoh, after an absence of more than a month, has again put in her appearnce here, and willahere after run her regular trips. She has beem thorougry overhauled and repaired and re painted throughout, and looks as bright and handsome as when she was first seen here. The repairs were made under the personal supervision of her commander, CapU Garrason, and this fact is evidence of the thoroughness with which tbe work was done . Ifewi kt tho City Hall. A white, man who gives his aamo as John Silversmith, was arrested by Officer Woebse, yesterday afternoon, and taken to tho Guard House for entering the premises of a citizen who resides near Boney Bridge and insulting his wife and family aad acting otherwise in a very die orderly manner. The husband of the lady wa3 absent front home at the time. but he appeared at the City Hall this morn ing and expressed himself in very in dignant terms about tho matter, stating also that if ho had been at home, tho po lice would not have had the chance or trouble of arresting the insulter of his family. The prisoner is believed by some to he demented, as he aets in i very singular and violent manner for oae possessed of a sound mind. Tho case did not come up for trial thU morning, owing to the indisposition of tbe Mayor. Two colored boys were arrested and taken to tho guard house this morning by Health Officer James, charged with forcible trespass in that they persisted in miking their bed underneath the house of Eliza Alfriend, a colored woman, residing on Fifth, Letwen Church and Castle streets, after they had bee a repeatedly warned not to do so.
